The year 2018 hasn’t been a great one for the Khans of the Hindi film industry. While Salman Khan and Aamir Khan faced box-office duds in the form of Race 3 (Rs 166.40 crore) and Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 151.19 crore) respectively, Shah Rukh Khan’s recently-released Zero has underperformed too. At least, that’s what the opening-weekend collection of the film suggests. In its three-day run, the romantic drama, directed by Aanand L Rai, has not been able to earn more than Rs 59.07 crore.
In terms of opening-weekend collection, SRK’s peers Salman and Aamir, however, were far ahead of him. Race 3, in its first weekend, had packed a hefty total of Rs 103 crore, whereas Thugs of Hindostan had earned Rs 105 crore in the same time frame. But the fact remains that in 2018, all the three Khans failed to work their magic at the box-office – the combined total of the opening-weekend collections of their films is a mere Rs 267.07 crore.
Thugs Of Hindostan hit the screens in India on November 8 and it opened to poor reviews. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee reviewed the film for NDTV and gave it 2.5 stars out of 5. He described it as "bloated and bombastic." He wrote: "Thugs Of Hindostan is a period saga that banks solely upon action and spectacle for impact." The film earned over Rs 50 crore on its opening day. However, it later crashed at the box office.

Thugs Of Hindostan, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, might not have performed well in India but the film is all set to enthrall the Chinese audiences soon. The film will hit the screens in China on December 28 this year, reports trade analyst Taran Adarsh. On Wednesday, Taran Adarsh shared the Chinese poster of the film on social media and wrote: "Date finalised-Thugs Of Hindostan to release date in China on December 28, 2018." However, the box office performance of Thugs Of Hindostan might be affected due to the release of Akshay Kumar's PadMan, which will release in China on December 14 this year.
In a separate post, Taran Adarsh explained how China has emerged as a leading market for Bollywood films and said: "China, as a film market is akin to the goose that lays golden eggs." He added, "But you cannot expect every Indian film to strike gold at the China box office. While 102 Not Out fizzled out, hopes are pinned on the next two Hindi releases - PadMan and Thugs Of Hindostan."
